About Me
Hi! I’m a copy editor and proofreader with over 8 years of experience. Of course, I’m a life-long lover of books. But if you want to know more about my background, here it is.
I spent over 7 years as an Editorial Assistant for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles and 8 years for IEEE’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine, helping copyedit and proofread papers and articles about autonomous vehicles. During this time, I also edited and proofread business documents and grant proposals for various businesses.
In recent years, I started freelancing and branched out into books, copyediting and proofreading both fiction and nonfiction work. I work primarily with small publishers and independent authors.
I have two bachelor’s degrees from The Ohio State University, have done graduate work at Florida International University, and have earned certificates in copyediting and proofreading from the Editors Freelancers Association (EFA), the Society for Editing (ACES) & Poynter, Proofread Anywhere, LinkedIn, and the Editorial Arts Academy.
As a freelancer, I’ve copyedited and proofread adult fiction (action/adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries) and YA books, nonfiction titles in business, self-help, and other topics, while also editing some essays, blogs, and marketing materials.
I’m a member of several prestigious editing and writing organizations, including the EFA, ACES, the National Association for Independent Writers & Editors, the Publishing Professionals Network, and others. I also recently co-organized and participated in a panel on disability, neurodivergence, and language for editors, helping to broaden the ever-evolving discussion on conscious language.
The More Personal Side
While I grew up in Ohio, my family is Turkish, so I grew up bilingual. I enjoy traveling, and I’ve trekked to Asia, Canada, and throughout Europe and the US, but I now live in Columbus, Ohio, with my partner. I enjoy reading and love nature.
I truly enjoy helping writers and authors cultivate and refine their writing, whether it’s for a book, blog, article, paper, transcript, or any other written work; fiction is my favorite (especially urban fantasy), though I enjoy writing too. I can help you create a document without distracting errors so that your readers can focus on your message instead of your mistakes. Reach out so we can chat!
